First Comics for Brand-New Readers

With the help of educators, we design our Level 1 books for kindergartners and first graders to read on their own--but they're also perfect to be read aloud to any child, even very young ones.

Our Level 1 books feature 1-2 panels per page, short sentences, and about 200-300 words, including many easy sight words. The facial expressions and body gestures that are at the core of our comics encourage social and emotional learning.
Read and re-reread these books with young children, and discuss the characters and stories. The comic format helps every beginning reader develop and master 5 core reading comprehension strategies and skills: Visualization & Imagining, Making Connections, Retelling, Summarizing & Synthesizing, and Compare and Contrast.
